There you go, that was the original article. Nowhere in it does it say that the mosque will be built using public funds. It says the group who approve the plans are funded by public funds though!

Incidentally, the proposed size of it has now been vastly reduced following consultation with the local community.......

          http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/a...que/article.do

Does anybody take these online petition things seriously? All the ones I see seem to be knee-jerk reactions to unsubstantiated rumours but for those who sign them and let the govt know where all the sheep are for fleecing in future..........

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/m.../25/do2502.xml

This states that most of the funding is coming from Saudi. Oh no! more Wahabism!

Frankly - I know of no Mosques built with public money. At least none around here. I'm not sure who spreads these rumors, but its probably the same people who don't go to church and claim that Muslims are invading a 'Christian' country.

We aren't a particularly Christian country, it just suits us to say that when our blissful religion-free lifestyles are rattled by extremists from a religion that is pretty alien to us. We moan about the state and ignore religion but are quite happy that the two are divided.

Then you get the idiots who come and pee on our bonfire - in all shapes and sizes (not that we can see under those burqas), in traditional dress and in suits and ties. They start to demand 'rights' - for example: they publish documents about how our schools should change to accommodate them, as our schools arent 'moral' enough for their children: they believe their right to cover their whole face while overriding our right to know who we are speaking to. I am refering to the activists only, like these dicks London School of Islamics; who, while appearing nice enough on their own website, spread messages like this on others

A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/She does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brits.

Institutional racism, drugs, crime, binge drinking, anti-social behaviour and teen age pregnancies are common part of life in modern Britain. Muslim parents do not want their children to become integrated into such barbarity.

What mixed messages is this sending to the ordinary, impressionable, muslim youth? What is it sending to the average half-assed-christian Englishman?

Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.

Sidenote: just read this on their forum, for anyone who believes we should be more tolerant, digest this first: http://www.londonschoolofislamics.or...864&forum_id=2
No images but you might not want to read at work as your dinner might revisit you.
I'm glad you refer to the activists only (I'd use the word extremists but we probaly mean the same thing). We can no more judge British Muslims by these nutters, than we can judge white British people by the BNP and their fellow travellers. It's tricky, as both sides can be hard to spot and like to sound reasonable when it suits their propaganda (taxpayers paying for giant mosque, anyone? - not having a go at you, DA, just the people behind the petition). Perhaps thay could all clear of to another part of the world to slug it out (or perhaps they'll find they have a lot in common when they get there) and leave the rest os us to get on with each other in peace.

The message is clear. Muslims do not want their children to take part in "Institutional racism, drugs, crime, binge drinking, anti-social behaviour and teen age pregnancies".

As a non-Muslim, I don;t want my children to take part in that, either.

Drunken kids / adults kicking the sh1t out of each other on the streets on Friday / Saturday nights does make integration look like a hard sell. Selling off our oldies' houses and chocking them into 'homes' probably doesn't look great either.

Perhaps we can learn from each other a bit (Old Greg in benevolent just returned from hoilday mode).

                    This is my understanding
-Tabligh i Jamaat want to build a giant mosque in Newham
-They haven't got the money for it yet
-They haven't applied for planning permission yet
-Planning permission is very unlikely to be granted anyway.

It would not surprise me if Ken wanted to use taxpayer's money for it, but nothing surprises me about that man. I would be very surprised if he got anywhere with it though.

Govt should refuse permission for this mosque since the funding is coming from saudi fundamentalists and its everybody's guess what will they preach there.
