Glastonbury isn't what it was that's true. Even going back to the early to mid 90s it wasn't anywhere near as commercialized as it is now, and you certainly didn't get the upper-class socialites there that you do nowadays. Wouldn't even contemplate going there now.

Didn't watch that much Glastonbury on the telly, but I have to say that John Fogerty sounded fantastic. Must make a point of going to see him before he pops his clogs.

        Young 'uns - pah.

The old dinosaur brigade were influenced by jazz, country and host of other uncool things that were around at the time - there simply wasn't any rock music so they had to invent it.

Nowadays everyone is influenced by a band who is influenced by a band who like Led Zep. No surprise that it is the same tulip getting ever more watered down.

(Oh, that's right, you don't have one, not even in the Guardian)
I like Clarkson, and it is funny, however he doesn't really bother too much with details like accuracy or not contradicting himself, but that's his style and he's good at it.
I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?

If you think that’s commercialized then you should try the V festival, everything is virgin branded they even have a virgin kebab shop where you just have to show your virgin mobile to get free food, but if you want a well organized pi55 up with great bands and clean toilets you can't beat it.

I've just got back from glastonbury, and it was f**king brilliant. Who gives a toss about a bit of mud? and Clarkson is a twat who should stick to masturbating over cars

Festivals started to go down hill when they let dance and novelty acts in. Increasingly middle England started attending, people concerned about getting their clothes muddy (hence knobheads wearing wellies). People no longer going for the music, but going because it had become fashionable to go.

                      Couldn't agree more

Actually I was watching German TV, and on one day I saw the Dome with all the latest acts, which was thoroughly boring, and then ZDF had an evening where they invited the old boys back from the sixties. Suddenly it was clear, this is how music should be. Watching whatisband (I forget their name) belt out Hippy hippy shake, and Good Golly Miss Molly. I did notice there were plenty of young people who seemed to love it, I mean I was too young for the fifiteis and the sixties but basically Clarkson is right they should ban all these boy groups and Pop Idols, just put Gerry and the Pacemakers back on stage.
                      I'm alright Jack
