By issuing a seperate physical token you remove the risk of a stolen PC giving access to bank accounts.
Yes, but nicking a PC is a physical crime. We're lead to believe that online fraud is much more common.

And what's everybody going to do with their physical token/magic box? They're going to keep it next to their PC to do their online banking. I know I will.

I didn't say it was a perfect system, but it has to be substantially better than being able to use three bits of information in any computer anywhere on the internet and getting full access to somebody's account.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I would mind. I access 10 accounts from 4 different PCs in 2 countries. 2 of them need a physical device so I'm using one of them less, but if I have to carry 10 devices in my carry-on it might take even longer to get through security.....

Yep. I've had the same letter. It arrived a couple of weeks ago but I haven't received the card reader yet.

Don't they do a shiny white one then?

Yep, the chances of them providing a driver for MAC OS X are slim...but I agree, if it does not work then I will have no choice...

HSBC use RSA type tokens with their online business banking. I got one when I opened my account and it works well.

Card readers sound a pain in the arse. How many numpty's are gonna be phoning HSBC trying to install it.
