Call me cynical perhaps, but if they can't get anything else there is always the kiddie porn...
Friend of a friend of mine had his flat dawn raided by the old bill looking for the previous tenant who was some sort of fence for stolen goods. He was arrested and had all his hardware, DVDs, etc seized before the mistaken identity was sorted out. The plod kept telling him he'd get his possessions back "soon" but a couple of months later still nothing had been returned. This guy lost patience and said he was going to sue the old bill then a few days later he was dawn raided again and rearrested for possession of child porn on his PC.

Spent a week on remand in Wandsworth nick (very nasty experience by all accounts) then bailed with all sorts of restrictions: cannot go within 50m of any unaccompanied child under the age of 14, cannot use a PC or access the net (big problem for an IT bod), all sorts of nonsense. Lost his job and ended up living with his mum in the country while waiting 18 months for the case to come to court.

Came under a lot of pressure from the old bill to plead guilty as it was a cut 'n' dried case they said, if he pleaded not guilty his picture would be in the papers for sure, his life would be ruined, etc., etc. Anyways, he maintained he knew nothing about it and stuck to his guns and during the trial it became apparent that the creation dates on the files he was alleged to have downloaded were after the PC was seized by the police. The judge tore a strip off the prosecution brief and released him without charge, but his life had already been ruined and as far as I know no one was ever held to account for trying to fit him up.

Funnily enough a friend of mine's husband got arrested 2 years ago under similar circumstances. They said he had child porn on his PC too.

I guess that's why I dont jump to conclusions when I hear this so frequently in the news.

He'd looked at porn obviously, but never kids stuff. They arrested, charged him, then the charges got dropped about 6 months later.
My mate works in a school aswell, so you can imagine how it's ruined their lives.

      Total and utter bullsh*t.

Dont get me wrong - anyone who messes round with kids should be castrated, tortured, then killed. But as with everythign in this ******* country, nothign is ever done correctly, and innocent people always end up getting completely stitched up.

My last post was with regards to the legal system in this country.
My first post was voicing my gut instincts about this whole situation.

I'm not trying to "stitch" the parents up - I'm just voicing my thoughts.

I tell you what else I find wierd...

Why did they only take her?
If it was a peado ring and they'd be surveilancing the area, why not take all 3 kids?

If it was a kidnap ring and they wanted to sell the lass on to an adoptive family, why not take a younger child? Surely they'd get more money for a 2 year old than a 4 year old?
And surely more for a boy than a girl? Or more for twins?

I'm sorry if putting these questions out ther is upsettign anyone...I just....I just dont get it.

I wasn't having a go, just highlighting the way in which many people think about this case - ie there is something funny = they are guilty - I bet the police have thought similar to you and if they get a smidge of evidence they'll be off down that track.

As I said before I haven't read all the details, but I thought one train of thought was that the girl woke up and went looking for her parents, then she was snatched - whats the liklihood of a Peado passing at the same time ?

Your other points are good questions, which I'm sure will get asked by our lovely tabloid press once they tire of the martyrdom of the parents...

I think the Portguese police had ruled that out as they didn't think she could either reach or operate the door or something like that.

And yes, what would be the likelyhood of only a kidnapper seeing her - no one else on that entire resort?

It's all just very very strange.

I do agree though - I will feel utter sympathy for them once the "media wind" changes...the Independent definately had an air of "why aren't they taking their children with them" this morning, so maybe it'll change quite quickly.

Is he suing? Has he been to the papers?

I know some very very good PR/media chaps...

They have left them with relatives though, it's not like they've just dumped them with a babysitter they've never seen before. And I kind of picture a family where both parents work (are they both GPs?) as probably leaving the kids with their grandparents more often than they look after them themselves, so it's not going to be upsetting or unusual from the children's point of view.

I've just made all that up with absolutely no first hand knowledge, but that's kind of how I picture the situation anyway.
