Stock answers (not necessarily my views, but works for Mr & Mrs Joe Bloggs)

      Which Broadband supplier = BT
Which PC/laptop manufacturer = Dell (as they normally have good deals)
Which antivirus software = Nortons (as it is normally on special offer)

      etc, etc
I remember my first 'proper' job, working in a software training house, where I was asked to make tea, and deliberately made a pigs ear of it in order not to be asked to make the tea again.

Is this what you're hoping to do with these 'recommendations'?

Then just get whatever's on sale that's not an HP. Every laptop is fine for this, especially if it rarely leave its desk!

Exactly - just want to push the person onto someone else for them to deal with.

Agreed, wouldn't touch Nortons with a barge pole myself, but with regards the other two suppliers, maybe I am lucky in that have been with BT Broadband for a couple of years with no outages and have used Dell laptops for several years with no issues (dread to think what would happen if I had to call their overseas support line though).

              So:

              Dell - bargepole
              Mac - no
              Viao - gay
              Acer - alright
              Toshiba - good
              IBM/Levono - good
              Alienware - geeks

              Fujitsu?
              Asus?
              HP?

Mac - no - maybe, being swayed
Viao - gay - look good, but no experience of usability
                Acer - alright - agree
                Toshiba - good - bargepole
                IBM/Levono - good - IBM - agree/Lenovo - yet to experience
                Alienware - geeks - agree

Fujitsu? Asus? HP? - no experience

Got an Alienware myself that does everything I want it to (oh nooo i must be a geek..)

Rockdirect are also good, but Rockdirect and Alienware aren't exactly the cheapest around, however you get what you pay for (and I love my 14.4" lappy screen that can do a native resolution of 1900 * 1200 )
