I have to avoid the dealers...I end up buying on impulse every time...I had my last car for 4 months, took it into the Merc garage for a service and walked out an hour later having bought a new one!! I can't help myself and I'm a couple of months away from looking to buy so I need to avoid dealerships at all cost!

I'm expecting to be able to squeeze the kids in as they are pretty small, but just wanted to know if anyone else has done it on a regular basis...I had a DB9 when I was working overseas last year and although it had back seats, you couldn't get anyone in them, they were completely pointless.

As for Rightstuff saying there is no point...I'm sure any logical person would say that...but hey, you only live once and having got married too young and struggled financially in loads of debt up until about 3 years ago, I figure I need to be a little wasteful to make up for lost opportunities when I was younger...and hey, you only live once.
I've been considering one, given the bullet proof engineering why not look at a 3 year old one? It's going to be 50-60% of the new price, there are loads of very low mileage garage queens, plus it won't lose much money over a period of years. Put a private plate on and nobody will know how old it is. The only problem is porsche drivers tend to buy from porsche, so they have the market stitched up. Buying off the sellers for rock bottom and selling on at a large premium. Herein lies the Porsche con, "they don't depreciate as fast as other cars" , well maybe if you actually can avoid selling to a stealer.
Mind you I'd imagine there is a big scope to haggle on the second hand mark-up, especially as credit is gettingtighter at the moment
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

sounds from your other posts you've when wasteful already. Do you drive to work? As I commute by train I find I only really drive at the weekends.

I have been a little wasteful over the last couple of years but not nearly enough!! I need to drag this out for at least another couple!

I am currently taking a train but just signed up to a new gig which will mean me driving...I generally do between 15k and 35k miles per year as I drive a lot in the evenings to see my kids as well...

And in terms of depreciation...the car I've lost the most money on was my Vectra...a 911 will be expensive to run but the depreciation is not so bad...and the fact that my new contract pays expenses will help!

        Solved.

Hadn't thought of that...my Grandad used to put me and my sister in a cage on the back of a tractor, we used to think it was great...

        Perfect solution!

A neighbour of mine had a new 996 Turbo for the last week (writes for a car mag) http://www.fahrcar.com/porsche-new-911-turbo-side.jpg. Man that is a nice car, not sure on the wheels, but when he took me for a spin in and gave it full beans, it was ******* amazing like an earth quake, dug in a bit and then just went. Have been a passenger in a Lambo Murcielago when that was given full beans but the Porsche felt faster to me

Not a fan of the interior of the previous model...although it may be wise to wait 12 months...

They were 17 and 12 when they went in, but they couldn't get out. Last I heard they were 21 and 16...

I love this thread - it's car ownership by proxy for me. I'd love to get a 'nice' car but I'm furiously saving for the next house move, and the area I live in now is too shady for anything decent. So I'm living through your dreams!
