Oh dear dang65, this blows you argument out of the water.

Maybe train commuters should subsidise us car drivers with a bit of ‘carbon offsetting’ for all the damage you do.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

      Yeah, tarmac over the tracks!

People like midwives and social workers who do drive around the countryside visiting patients... well, they aren't actually expected to pay for their own transport you know.
Well you presume to know what is best for everyone else so you draw the line between what is a reasonable and what is an unreasonable mileage. And if the care worker or the "patient" is not paying for the transport then who is?

If you fancy an ironic laugh, have a look at the new Cambridge Guided Bus scheme...

            So tragic it's fecking funny!

One of my long-held beliefs! But restrict the new routes to buses and coaches.

Have you noticed how Dang is selective with the bits he responds to...and his arguements are getting shorter and shorter.

I have to admit I'm having trouble keeping up with this onslaught. The fact that I haven't answered every point doesn't mean I don't have an answer, just that every time I respond to one comment I get three or four new ones in return (or repetitions of ones I've already answered). I'll plod on for a bit though. Don't want to let people down, y'know.

so try explaining why cars are so undesirable and what alternatives you have for them.

Oh no, I would have them strictly for car use only. Banned from them would be buses, trucks, builders vans, and cars with engine power of less than 150 bhp and more than 3 years old, (some derogations for well maintained Italian exotica need to be sorted etc.). They could knock down the railway stations and build multi-storey car parks in their place.
