Aye I think that is the key to living in London. Find one of the nice self-contained "villages" e.g. Richmond, Barnes, Northfields that are nevertheless close to somewhere exciting. The mistake people make is to live in an exciting, "vibrant" area. Those are just for visiting.

London will burn you out (unless your well 'ard) if you do the long commutes, and do the same for your social scene.
