If I was Gordo I would come on sites like this and pretend to be a Joe Bloggs contractor with tips on how to avoid me...but here's the twist...I would give out tips that actually make no difference to your chances of getting investigated, but do encourage you to claim less than you are entitled to in order to ensure more of your hard earned cash goes in my pocket whilst officially saying I support small businesses!! Clever huh...

I think Eternal is just demonstrating the 'keep yourself under the radar approach'. It may or may not work but I try to practice it and have avoided attention so far. If you limit the target for the HMRC then they'll hopefully pick on someone else who's annual accounts stand out a bit. SA may have been purely unlucky but I think the 28K expenses may have stood out if some HMRC bod was asked to look through a pile of annual accounts with a view to picking on someone !?

Funnily enough I just stumbled across my witness statement while looking for something else. The thieving coont had £260 off me and I didn't see a penny of it back. Guess there wasn't much left for the likes of me once the taxman had put their claim in.

So the moral of the story is, be very very careful with products advertised via CUK.
