The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
Had one, bloody great car but the insurance was crippling and the attention it got from 'yoofs' when parked up was worrying to say the least.
All I want is a luxury saloon with rocket like performance, a low profile and cheap to insure... how hard can it be?
It's as easy as pissing in a pot - You can get a Jaguar 300 series for £6K these days. They're as quiet as a mouse inside while driving, reliable, and more fuel efficient than you might think, and have a lot of poke in a tricky situation.
Actually, I scared the bejezus out of myself a couple of months back, overtaking on an A-road going through the New Forest. I'm used to cruising around in town and hardly ever use the kick-down; but pulling out to overtake and then seeing a car approaching the other way I floored it and the car shot past the old granny in front like a cruise missile. I barely had time to grab my head off the back seat, screw it back on, and pull back in before the oncoming car reached me.
Mazda makes great cars, but they are heavy on the depreciation. Even the rx-8 tumbles in value almost immediately. Still, I like them. My '92 mx-3 I sold to my brother and he still drives it everyday. I now have a '97 626 and it is still great to drive - drives better my crapola Passat which has 30,000 less miles on it.

The idea is to buy something that is current and would not need replacement for a while.
lets face it how many people who dont get big big bonuses pay cash down for £15k+ cars.

I found 15k down the back of my couch once

tulip, i said i wanted a car, not sell my house to finance one .
Mazda's, subaru's are out of the question. they remind me of townboy racers.
I need more imput on the X5, 3 series, Merc M-Class and CLK. dont know much about the JAG's but I presume their maintenance cost must be pretty high

Residuals of big saloons are crap squared. This makes them bloody cheap when they are a few years old. A mate just traded his S500 Merc, 2001 low miles, 12k. It's a lot of car for the money. You could get a good example of anything I listed at 5 years old for < 15k.
With the JAG (or anything really) electricals can be a bit weak. If there is anything vaguely wrong in the electrics take a walk.
Maintenance isn't too bad is you use a local specialist.

I thought you said you didn't have a lot of money? aside from the X5 maintenence on the others could be quite high. and me thinks the X5 will be hard to find cheap - as is probably true with any BMW - just because of the badge. M class - tulipe, Merc quality has dropped.
Would you go for a Honda?

Good call I was thinking about an Accord myself, good build quality and residuals, reliable and stealthy.
I have a Civic type-R at the moment and wouldn't hesitate to get another Honda but as we have a baby on the way I may need those 4 doors sooner than I'd like!
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
My last two cars have been Japanese. Cheap to service, they actually care about customer satisfaction, and they rarely go wrong.
Many of the other manufacturers rely on either stupidity or badge snobbery.
A guy in the office has a 2 year old Audi TT. It is forever being fixed for some fault or other and the service costs are ridiculous. Still , it's VAG and they are very reliable, apparently
