If you're having problems finding 4 kosher references seeing as it's your first contract or indeed IT position after all, you could put down a couple of mates (or acting directors if you like) as referees.
I did that once after a spell out of contracting. Wondered what to do about the gap on the cv. Put name of my own company as last contract and a couple of mates as references. The agency was too dumb to put 2+2 together when they asked for the name of my ltd for the contract after securing one
