MUFC is supported by less mancunians than Man U.

    How do we know this

1/ they (City) can't sell out the ground. Look at the empty seats, surely a well supported club in a large city would be full to capacity? Either Mancunians aren't football fans or they support united.

2/ numerous surveys by the Manchester Evening News

Although it is often claimed that few Mancunians support United (similar claims are made about Juventus and Bayern Munich), the Manchester Evening News has conducted several surveys asking Mancunians which team they support and United have topped each poll, on one occasion getting 66% of the vote.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Though I agree with most of what you are saying I think you are wrong on this point, both George Gillett and Tom Hicks have been to watch their team and have even given interviews on MOTD and went to great lengths to persuade the board and the fans that they were in it for the long haul.

Malcolm Glazer's takeover was mostly hostile and he can't be bothered to go to old trafford.

"Typical Utd 'fan' just does not understand what being a true supporter of a football club is all about. Were you one of the thousands who said they'd never watch Utd again when Glazer took over, the same people who vowed to bring vodafone, budweiser and Nike to their knees ? Where are these people now? A few hundred watch FCUM-where are the other clowns....Rochdale?"

Actually no I wasn't. I didn't want the club taking over, but it is the club I support, not the owners. So what is being a true supporter? Enlighten me. I have supported United since I was 6 when I went to school in Beswick, just down the road from your council house. That season they were relegated. I could have easily picked a more successful team to support but I didn't. I waited for years before they won the title. When they first won it I was born, they didn't win it again for what 28 years? Something like that? During that time we had some seriously cr@p sides but I still supported them - and went when I could. Now they are doing well but I doubt that it will go on forever. When they get knocked off the top (like Liverpool were) then I will continue to support them. Just like you did when City made it into the old 3rd division.

"What rags forget when they switch into arrogant mode (as you demonstrated brilliantly) is that I would NEVER want my football club to become anything like Utd. Not for all the trophies in the world. My club is still followed by real Mancs who have the club in their blood, who have family, community and social ties to the club. People don't jump on the bandwagon and just 'decide' to support city you are born into it and that makes MCFC much more of an institution than Utd will EVER be."

What utter bolloxs. And it is this attidude which typifies your pretty scarce blue nose. Man City have a capacity of 48k yet the biggest gate of the season so far has been 42k and the lowest down to 36k. United pulled in more than that for that European Xi thing a while back. Lets see, Man U get more for a mid season friendly than Man C can pull in for a fully blown prem match. Hey that really is following your team! Well Done!

Agreed, but that is his way and it is his son who has the task of running the club (using daddys money) and he has been there a number of times. But as I said before, I would support Man U if they did a Man city and found themselves at the wrong end of the league.

I fail to see how City fans who support a smaller and less successfull team seem to think that this in some way makes them more of a supporter. Did people accuse Liverpool fans of this in the 70's and 80's?

A lot of United's support comes from North of the city - ie Salford, Prestwich, Bury etc and these get included in MEN polls even though these areas are not technically Manchester (yes they have got a Manchester post code but that means nothing - there are some very posh areas with Warrington post codes for example).

So, it's fact that there is only one Premiership team that plays in Manchester and that the majority of genuine Mancs favour City.

The rest is squabbling. If some American Billionaire came in for City we'd have his money like a shot.

Being a City fan is more fun. You get to go to a much wider variety of Away venues. macc Town one season, Theatre of tulipe a couple of seasons later.

I think Old Trafford is actually in Salford, so outside Manchester. However, who cares if the supporters are true mancs? Most of the people in Manchester are Chavs anyway. The reason the council house is often empty is becuase

1 - there isn't enough 'true mancs' to fill it
2 - many loyal city fans don't go becuase the team is so poor at the moment.

I imagine 2 is to do with Stockport doing Ok this season, and Stockport is in cheshire, so I guess most citeh fans aren't true Mancs 'by definition'

You THINK! I think that sums it up. For the record, Old Trafford is in Trafford which, you are right is not technically Manchester but it ain't Salford.

As a service to United fans across the world, maybe this will help -
                      Trafford

You're all right about the quality on offer at COM these days. It can be painful.
