most techies act as though their programming is the main reason for a company's existence
    Go to the Server Room.
Unplug all the Redundant Power Supply Units.
    Turn off all the Servers.

And see if the company can cope.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I agree, Making the transition from Techie to business is hard for a techie.

I do find it difficult at time, to try keep things non technical in meetings, but it is essential if you want success.

The worst ones to be an obstacle to a useful combination are the jealous f@ckwits like sasguru who failed as techies and now are miserable gits who want the others to fail just as they did. If people tried to communicate each other rather than showing off what they know better, the discussion can go somewhere. Obviously the technical people should know the technical aspects more and business people should understand business issues more properly. IT people speak IT, business people speak business. IT Business people must come from an IT background so they should be able to understand technical issues on a basic extent. Everybody, apart sasguru, understand that and I would be surprised if it was the opposite.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.
