      A few good reads

Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk (who did Fight Club) an awesome book. In fact, anything by Chuck Palahniuk is excellent.

      Black Dahlia - James Ellroy

The Winter of Frankie Machine - Don Winslow

      Glamorama - Brett Easton Ellis

Just read 'A long way down' by Nick Hornby, Its about 4 unconnected people who all decide to kill themselves on new years eve, it cheered me up no end... no seriously!

Also 'Our final century' by Martin Rees... that didn't cheer me up at all, if it's not global warming, a disease or a particle acceleration experiment gone wrong that gets you then the nano-bots will!
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Anyone read any Irvin Welsh? I've read Filth, P0rno and Ecstacy - he's a very warped individual, some of the krap he comes out with, very entertaining.
