Did I say they are my client? You really shouldn't get so angry and pedantic about a throwaway comment. Next Denny will come on and analyse at great length whether having a crap pub lunch with an agent affects your IR35 status in any way.

But on that track, why on earth should I take THEM out to lunch?

You could argue that by meeting once in a blue moon the "better agencies" can at least claim to have met the people they are "supplying", rather than having just scanned their CV for buzz words. In that respect it is in their interests.

In days gone by, agencies used to take all their contractors out on a freebie at least once a month. Restaurant, pub followed by a night club or casino, transport laid on, the works.

One agency even flew the rest of my band out to Brussels to finish off the night with a gig when I was working there.

      Changed days.

I contracted through Penta when on a 6 monther at Nortel 2 years ago. Had no problem with contract changes, paid on time, etc. I dealt with Aminesh Patel - bit of a wide boy, but seemed fairly straight. Certainly one of the more "professional" agenicies I've dealt with.

Eh, the resturant bit yes. Usually at lunchtime so you lost more money in time off than the lunch cost.

But in 25 years I've never seen a deal with 'transport laid on' nor one that extended past a meal and a couple of drinks.

Maybe its a niche market we are missing.

I may start my own rec agency. Hookers and cocaine all round! When I take my contractors out.

I am sure you will be very popular with your 'lorry driver' contractors SP.
