Don't try to run when infected.

Seriously the lengths some people go to pass the infection around. Just stay put.

Dutch military police boarded a plane to arrest a couple who had fled a quarantine hotel on Sunday.

The married pair, one of whom had tested positive for Covid-19, were attempting to escape the country before being foiled by officers.

It is unclear if one of the duo are among a group who have been confirmed to have the new Omicron variant.

Dozens of passengers who tested positive after arriving on two flights from South Africa on Friday are being kept in quarantine at a hotel near Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

The pair were trying to fly to Spain but were arrested ‘in an airplane that was about to depart,’ according to the police force known as the Marechausse.

In a statement after the dramatic arrest, they explained that the pair had been turned over to health authorities.

They are a Spanish man, 30, and a Portuguese woman, 28, police spokesman Stan Verberkt said.

‘The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee at Schiphol has arrested a couple this evening who had fled from a quarantine hotel’, he said.

‘The arrests took place in a plane that was about to take off… for Spain at around 6pm.’

Public health authority spokeswoman Stefanie van Waardenburg confirmed that one of the couple had tested positive for Covid-19 and went into isolation, while the other person was negative but in quarantine.

It is unclear how they managed to board a flight despite testing positive and how the alarm was raised.

Border police are working with the Dutch public prosecutor’s office to charge the couple with jeopardising public safety, Mr Verberkt said.
