I hate Vista

OK, just a quick question. Home Premium costs £211 on Amazon. Ultimate costs £332. What new features in Vista are worth that price? I've really yet to hear of any new features of any substance - enhanced GUI doesn't really count. What else is there? What advantages does it offer over XP? -
No one (with a brain) ever buys a retail boxed upgrade.
Feck me, stick with XP until you want to upgrade to a new PC. The PC will come with Vista (an OEM version, so cheap as chips for the vendor) and you'll be laughing. Wait until at least SP2 if you want 100% rock solid Vista, with all the nobs on.Comment

I still want to know though, what are the new features that have taken them 5 years to develop? Seems to me Vista is XP with a new skin, a boat load of DRM and a new dialogue box that pops up to ask you if you really do want to install something. Whether you get it as an OEM version or not, it's still a legitimate question that I haven't seen answered anywhere.Comment

I had an identical conversation at work last week. My answer: a lot has changed but most of it isn't apparent from the material available from MS. And most of the features are designed to work with Longhorn server. So my advice: get a dodgy copy, run it in a VM or dual boot and use it for the 30 days until it disables itself. Then go back to XP. If that still does the job for you stick with it. Some people will like it and some people wont.Originally posted by Cowboy BobOK, just a quick question. HTH.
PS. If you use OSX you probably dislike most things from MS anyway, but I'm not sure if Vista will run in Parallels.Comment

I've been using Macs at home for a fair while now.
There are things about Macs I don't like.
There are things about Windows that I do like.
I have a love of the Unix/Linux command line.
I use a PS2 for games and will use a PS3 when it arrives.
The thing is the Mac does what I want and without any fuss.Comment
