DOOM: Covid antibody levels fall in over-70s

“On Wednesday, new figures from the ONS antibody swab survey showed that 54.9 per cent of people in private households in England were likely to have tested positive for Covid antibodies in the week to March 28 – largely unchanged since the middle of March.

During those two weeks, nearly seven million more people in the UK had their first dose of vaccine and millions of older people received a second jab which should have boosted immunity further.

Yet the new figures show that levels of antibodies have dropped by nearly 10 per cent in the over-70s during the period. The presence of antibodies suggests someone has had the virus in the past or has been vaccinated and is now protected, at least to some degree, against it.”

Shocker - maybe using vaccines differently (12 weeks rather than 3-4 between shots) than they were trialled and approved got something to do with it?

That because long term immunity is from T cells not antibodies so is not a surprise

Of couse you average brit is too stupid and so the media focus solely on antibodies

Antibodies show recent infection, not long term protection.

Such a shame that science journalists have no basic grounding in science and so peddle crap instead of fact.

        Expanding on the above:

When a virus enters the body, it is picked up by certain cells of the immune system. They transport the virus to the lymph nodes where they present its fragments, known as antigens, to CD8+ T cells responsible control of viral infections. Each of these cells carries a unique T cell receptor on the surface that can recognize certain antigens. However, only very few T cell receptors match a given viral the antigen.

To bring the infection under control and maximize the defenses against the virus, these few antigen-specific T cells start dividing rapidly and develop into effector T cells. These kill virus-infected host cells and then die off themselves once the infection is cleared. Some of these short-lived effector cells -- according to the generally accepted theory -- turn into memory T cells, which persist in the organism long term. In case the same pathogen enters the body again, memory T cells are already present and ready to fight the invader more swiftly and effectively than during the first encounter.

The average media bod is too stupid and has the attention span of an ooh, shiny, so wouldn't get that either.

Its also a way to keep the population scared of covid and compliant....... SARS the original still gives T cell immunity 17 years later, long after the antibodies have gone. This is the closest virus to SARS-cov2 of any other so there are reasons to assume similar behaviour. Yes you can get infected again but the Cells should kick in long before you show symptoms.

however the message - no antibodies mean you can catch it again is much more useful in keeping sheep following da rulz long after they should have applied commons sense and stopped
