Does that mean we should expect, according to the maths, periods of lower than usual and higher than usual temperatures? Yes.
it's all very well stating "the maths predicts it" but what maths, how does it predict this, how do we know the maths is right?

Core samples tell a lot. Layers of sedimentary rock going back millennia contain fragments of plant life and sealed in gases that give a clue as to conditions.

I wouldn't say they're available as 10 year rolling averages but I think you know that.

Right, and it's the coincidence of thousands of different types and pieces of evidence from ice cores, lake sediment cores, ocean cores and all sorts of proxies within those cores for which we have modern analogs; peat bogs; tree rings etc. From all over the world and in all types of environments. All of which are sensitive to climate change at different spatial and temporal scales. All of which can be dated historically using various dating methods (dendrochronology, isotopes etc.). Then the instrument record over the last few centuries. Then NWP models. It isn't one source of evidence from a couple of scientists with an agenda. It's the climate cretins that have the agenda. Look, weather!

For some reason this reminded me of some years ago when the local university archelogy students had a dig in a nearby park on an historical site. I thought I would cheer them up by strategically planting some Byzantine coins I bought cheaply in Turkey. However, later that week, the local newspaper reported a "significant find" that showed trading in the middle ages went further afield than originally thought.

Hmm, so 'a clue' is the same as 'facts'. What are the error bars on our graph of world temperature 0-1800 or so?
