You would think that "freedom of speech campaigners" would be delighted that there is a debate on the question. But apparently they're seriously triggered.

Mind you, these days 'Land Of Hope & Glory' could be banned under the Trade Descriptions Act.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Goodness knows what they will do with Deutchslandelied (Uber alles), Il Canto degli Italiani or La Marseillaise?

Deutchslandelied Uber alles was only used used during the Nazis late 1930s to 1945. It was not used before then and not used since 1945.

Interesting - they just use the third verse now:

Unity and justice and freedomFor the German fatherland!
Towards these let us all strive
            Brotherly with heart and hand!
            Unity and justice and freedom
            Are the safeguards of fortune;
            |: Flourish in the radiance of this fortune,
            Flourish, German fatherland! :|

The second verse of the British National Anthem, would have been apt for the Brexit negotiations

              O Lord, our God, arise,
              Scatter her enemies,
              And make them fall.
              Confound their politics,
              Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On thee our hopes we fix:
              God save us all.

Gammons would like this as well.

                Lord, grant that Marshal Wade
                May, by thy mighty aid,
                Victory bring.
                May he sedition hush
                And, like a torrent, rush
                Rebellious Scots to crush.
                God save the King.

Although vetran is well versed in that song, each night he stands at attention in his black patent leather cavalry boots at the end of his bed and belts it out with vigour knowing that one day he will get his rightful rewards...otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned it

                    and wrong

In November 1991, President Richard von Weizsäcker and Chancellor Helmut Kohl agreed in an exchange of letters to declare the third stanza alone to be the national anthem of the reunified republic.[15] Hence, effective since then, the national anthem of Germany is unmistakably the third stanza of the Deutschlandlied, and only this stanza, with Haydn's music.

Barmy is dreaming of me in knee length leather boots and tight black uniform again.
