Reminds me of a story from one of those "secret lives of" series: a family cat kept disappearing in the evening following a baby having arrived on the scene. A tracker was placed in its collar to see where it was going. It turned out that the cat had been nipping off down the road a couple of houses and had effectively moved in with an old bloke over night for some peace and quiet. It would have dinner at the family home then piss-off for a second dinner and a kip on the old boy's bed.

He had thought that it was a stray and had taken it in.
