Trump's former adviser Bannon arrested on fraud charges
Lock him up!
Donald Trump's former top adviser Steve Bannon has been arrested in the US and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Federal prosecutors accused him and three others of defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors over fundraising to build a wall on the US border with Mexico.
The online crowdfunding campaign known as "We Build The Wall" raised more than $25m, prosecutors said, which the defendants claimed would be used on construction.
It was used for their own profit instead, it is alleged.
The donors thought the money would go towards helping to build a border wall, according to federal prosecutors in Manhattan.
They announced today that Mr Bannon was charged in an unsealed indictment along with several others including Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea.
Mr Kolfage, whom they described as the public face and founder of the operation, received thousands of dollars that he allegedly used to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Mr Bannon, a prominent figure on the American political right, served as a campaign and White House adviser to Donald Trump, who made the construction of a border wall a key campaign promise in 2016.
