That is bollox. No court in the land would agree as long (as your email is reasonable and simply doing as requested by a client rep as you outlined).

That is bollow. You would have a very firm case if all is as you have outlined. They are trying to scare you.

Don't then. Write off the dough, flick 'em the bird and walk away.

That is also bollox. Paying notice and working notice are not related at all.

          agree with the duder.

and/or ask for written explanation from their hr. see what it is and then make a decision on whether to give them the bird or not.

I agree with SA - they have thicker skins, but it's likely they'll prefer to protect their account with the client more than your interests.

I'd invoice for the work done and walk away, send the odd letter and rack the interest up, then take them to the small claims court later for a laugh.

The person assigned by the IT director on the project to deliver asked me to write it, that person was struggling to get the information required, so he told me to put all that is required in an email to the IT director so that he can go through it with him. I am thinking of writing an email to the IT director telling him that I was instructed to send him that email - but I don't really see him changing his mind, and even if he did I wouldn't want to go back !! I still think it was a stupid mistake of mine - just feeling so bad about making such a school boy political error

Was the email at all threatening? Or was it just an email of basic requirements?

It sounds like you have been setup.

By not saying who asked you to write it?

This IT Director sounds a bit of a dick.

There's got to be more to it than just that. They wouldn't have a leg to stand on legally.
