Coronavirus: Health minister says app should roll out by winter

“ A government minister has said the NHS coronavirus contact-tracing app is "not a priority" and he was not sure it would be out by winter.

The app, which has been trialled on the Isle of Wight, was initially expected to launch nationally weeks ago.

Lord Bethell, the Minister for Innovation at the Department of Health and Social Care, said he was unable to give a date for its launch.

But he insisted that the trial "has gone very well indeed".”

The British government has royally screwed up contact tracing. Layer that on top of going into lockdown too late and it's a very sorry business indeed.

Still, incompetence is what people voted for.

One phone call to GCHQ is all they needed.

Perhaps they can use the German app made available to us recently...

And it's available in English too...Although they would have to change the availability of it as you can only download from the Google or Apple German stores

Is abandoning an app that Matt Hancock said was "a very, very positive step in terms of us all being able to get some of our liberty back" a very, very negative step in terms of you all being able to get some of our liberty back? Or is the UK just going to have a go anyway - Dunkirk spirit etc?

The first app worked really well and was awesome value for money - it got ministers through the (first) peak of pandemic, money well spent.
