I disagree.
The UK Gov have taken many leaves out of the Trump/Republican playbook and have bypassed the usual basic spin when approaching problems and the Q&A session with journalists. It all started well before this pandemic.
The worst thing that could happen is that the PM returns to the job in a week or two and their version of normal service resumes.
I hope that Boris has an epiphany and turns into an honest gent. Let's face it, he's been dishonest throughout his life, judging from his personal and professional relationships. It simply isn't ok to treat people that way, lying to get what you want.
Relationships take time to build and their relationship with the public is such that they can blatantly lie or twist things severely, their supporters realise but still defend them to the hilt. That's a very unusual situation to be in, as even the newspapers have further split into factions and will defend regardless.
If Zig and Brillo are suggesting this isn't the case then I'm disappointed in you both. I think most people reading this acknowledge that the level of spin and misinformation is at an all time high from the UK Goverment. It's dangerous because once the public get used to this form of lying and misinformation it's easier to ramp it up in future and do whatever they want.
Would you acknowledge that even the Mays an Camerons of the political class are are least decent politicians, even if you disagree with their ideology? The Boris' and Goves of the UK political class are able to just waffle their way through anything and say "the science changed" and their supporters just see that as an acceptable answer.
If this was a marriage and someone used this form of psychological manipulation on you, your friends would tell you to get the hell out of that relationship. In many such situations the person being manipulated is also unaware it's even occurring and thinks everything is ok.
My main complaint is the way in which the UK Government bypass scrutiny and don't provide realistic logical responses, meaning they can just bypass the due diligence and scrutiny required in a democracy.
It's difficult to spell out, but do you agree that the UK Gov - during the pandemic and also before this - have spun answers to an exceptionally high degree? Do you acknowledge that they haven't answered questions appropriately and to the full extent required, as answered by past governments of any colour?
This isn't an anti-Tory bash, far from it. What I see is the exact same as in the USA where not answering questions truthfully - in fact, let's call it what it is, blatant lies - means that the political landscape becomes more confusing and actually diminishes democracy. That's why people like me are worried. I don't give a tulip who is in power as long as they answer questions appropriately and don't act as a law unto themselves. This pandemic has shown them up for what they are, because you can't bluster your way out of the fact doctors and nurses are using the wrong PPE, some of which expired 15 years ago as has been reported across the newspapers. In such a scenario do you trust the UK Government when they are known to blatantly lie against provable facts or do you trust the highly educated doctors on the front line who just want the appropriate high spec PPE?Last edited by rogerfederer; 9 April 2020, 10:26.Comment

In order to explain something and to minimise the chance of misunderstanding or misinformation it takes words to clarify sentences and expand upon points. One of the core reasons for disputes and misunderstandings is sentences, particularly text with no tone, being understood the wrong way by the recipient.
It isn't possible to write short sentences and have the sentence understood the same way by every reader, which is in fact a theory capitalised upon by Trump and the UK Government; thanks for highlighting this.Comment

Boris improving today, unlike that horrible bint from the "tolerant left" and her career.
Not only has she been expelled by the Labour Party, she's been sacked by the law firm she works at.

This is probably a good example.
Does a smoker of 60cigarettes per day for 50 years deserve to get lung cancer? No.
Now, would you expect someone who smokes that much to get lung cancer? Yes, I fully expect someone to get lung cancer who smokes that much.
Does someone who ignores their own advice and chooses to physically touch and be very close to hundreds of people deserve to get Covid19?
I don't know whether they 'deserve' it but, as with the smoker, they chose to engage in very risky behavior that is known to increase their risk.
The PM engaged in risky behavior that surely massively increased his likelihood of contracting it.
Does someone who follows all the rules, isolates and does their best to follow all the guidance provided to them deserve to get Covid19? No
Does someone who doesn't follow the rules and, in fact, purposefully breaks them - when they're meant to be setting a good example to others - deserve to get Covid19?
They didn't deserve it but they were stupid for taking those risks and, as my old gran would have said, "were asking for it."
LondonManc stays indoors, isolates, follows the rules: doesn't get Covid19, as the risk is low.
LondonManc goes outdoors a lot, attends secret parties, shakes hands with lots of people and ignores all the current advice. LondonManc gets Covid19 and is severely unwell.
Does LondonManc deserve it? Some people would say yes; the nicer people would say: they were naive to the risks or understood the risks but chose to risk their life anyway.
It's not really you or the PM I care about, it's the people you infect that is the unfair aspect of this. The PM flouted the known recommendations and is likely to have infected others, including his own pregnant partner. Yet we've to focus our sympathy on this guy?
Nonsense.Last edited by rogerfederer; 9 April 2020, 11:06.Comment
