psychocandy if you're ever stuck on the bench then I can give you tips on how to get ESA instead of JSA. That way you don't have to go to the jobcentre and can sit back and you watch the £75 a week minimum roll in to your bank account. NLUK would have to work for a whole hour for that kind of money whereas you'll be laughing.

ESA, as in Employment Support Allowance, can be claimed as follows:

Step 1) Go to GP and tell them the stress of contracting or being a carer has sent you over the edge and ask to be signed off until whenever you think your next contract might start.
Step 2) Phone the ESA helpline and make a claim, they will send you a form.
Step 3) Take form to job centre along with your ID and sick note.
Step 4) They check your NI contributions and if you qualify you will receive ESA at the provisional amount of £75pw
Step 5) Be aware that if you stay on ESA for over 2 months then the DWP will conduct its own medical which will put you into one or two groups if you are still deemed unfit to work. Both will increase your ESA to £120 but frankly I would think the state of your health will be a bigger issue.

Finally, if you're looking for easy money from the state then my wife has just received another days out fund of £350 after a 5 minute carer's review phone call.
