What is that funny smell round here? Can anyone decide?Originally posted by malvolio View PostSo why was I paying between 12 and 25% for around three years, going up every month?
Oh yes. It is Mal's credit rating......Comment

I think the purpose was to explain how the Income Tax bands work rather a full illustrationOriginally posted by jds 1981 View PostThey appear to have conveniently decided not to include NI.
Also (although simpler) didn't mention the loss of things like child benefit.Comment

Perhaps, but omitting NI which the poster must have known about makes it come across as somewhat dishonest.Originally posted by ladymuck View PostI think the purpose was to explain how the Income Tax bands work rather a full illustration
NI is simple enough that it should have been included.Comment

Labour tax manifesto
Three day weeks were brought in by the Conservative PM Edward Heath.Originally posted by malvoliothree day weeks, union domination of failing industries and public services strikes. So do not dare to lecture me on the joys of a socialist government. You are quite simply talking out of your arse.
It’s really not hard to look this stuff up.

Nope again. Extended greatly by Labour, but started under the Conservatives.Originally posted by malvolio View PostI've also pointed out that the majority of NHS spending is not on patient care, and quite a lot - around 35% - is paying off PFI contracts, which were also let under Blair.
So up yours, dear boy.
And the largest percentage paid by any trust is a little over 16%.

Have you forgotten the 13.8% Employers NI?Originally posted by ladymuck View PostMona Chalabi on Instagram: “People really misunderstand marginal taxes so I made this quick guide. The UK Labour party announced a plan to increase the marginal tax…”

Because of the power cuts caused by the striking miners. (Although I do agree Heath was an idiot).Originally posted by meridian View PostThree day weeks were brought in by the Conservative PM Edward Heath. His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...Comment

Neither do you. Know what I'm talking about, that is. I didn't say I support Labour. I just welcomed their introducing the general concept of increasing overall tax in order to fund state services. Because of ingrained prejudice like yours, it will take a long time for the populace to get on board. But it has to happen. You can rant on about all the inefficiencies of Health, Education, Infrastructure etc but those are inevitable. Stop whining. If you are in a pub and you want another round it's no use complaining about the prices. Get your wallet out or go thirsty.Originally posted by malvolio View PostYour problem, regrettably, is you don't know what the f*** you're talking about."Don't part with your illusions; when they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live" Mark TwainComment

Which of course is all the fault of Labour. Anything bad is Labour's fault.Originally posted by Mordac View PostBecause of the power cuts caused by the striking miners. (Although I do agree Heath was an idiot).Comment

Given the links between the Labour Party and Unions at the time, there's some truth in that.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostWhich of course is all the fault of Labour. Anything bad is Labour's fault.Comment
