      I enjoyed Uruguay...
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Old habits die hard - a fortnight in Basingstoke then a dirty weekend in Rottherham.

                Seconded.

I have a stamp from the "Fray Bentos" border crossing in my passport.

Is this turning into look how far I've been type thread? I've been from Alaska to the Falklands, but for me no where beats Italy. If you haven't been to Rome then go, and later chill out in Tuscany. The sights, the food, the wine and the people when you get to know them are fantastic and not too expensive if you apply a little research beforehand. At one of the campsites in tuscany it was cheaper to eat in the resturant than buy at the local supermarket.

Listen to the wise gibbon. Just a word of advice, prices are rather higher than what they used to be. Expect similar prices to the UK (with the difference that at least you have good weather and food ).
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

So where do the panel suggest? My current plan is Mexico for a week of culture/exploration and a week of diving/eating/relaxing etc.

                      Any other ideas or recommendations?

Too old for 18-30/chav stuff but too young for saga.
Me and the Mrs last did a winter month off to Vietnam and Cambodia, very good, good grub, suprisingly good accomo and very cheap. Vietnam is also a good place to stock up on clothes, tailor made suits at 15 quid, shirts a couple of quid, etc etc We went with empty rucksacks and came back fully loaded. You can fly direct to Saigon from London.

Another good one we did was Peru, Cusco and the Inca Trail are OK for a 2 weeker, if you are feeling adventurous tag on Bolivia but you'll need longer and its a bit rough and ready.

Now got a toddler so its a week in Gran Canaria leaving on Saturday, not quite the same !
