Are there scientists out there who do not believe in the greenhouse effect or global warming?

No, this is a myth. All scientists believe in the greenhouse effect. Without it the planet would be frozen. And all scientists accept that if humans put more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere then it will warm the planet. The only disagreement is over precisely how much the warming will be amplified by planetary feedbacks.

However, there is a growing consensus that the average global warming of 0.6°C seen in the twentieth century - and particularly the pronounced warming of the past three decades - is due to the greenhouse effect.

NO ONE is arguing the following:

1. The world is getting warmer
2. There is a greenhouse effect
3. There is more CO2 in the atmosphere

All above is well accepted and easily measured.

BUT

1. How much of the CO2 comes out burning fossil fuels versus natural sources?
2. How much of the greenhouse effect is due to CO2? CO2 is a piss poor greenhouse gas compared to say methane (cows farting and rice fields) and even water vapour?
3. How much is due to changes in greenhouse gases being naturally absorbed (sea algae, rain forests, bacteria in the soil)?
4. How much of the temp increase is due to solar cycles, mini ice age ending, sun spots, etc?


It's so easy for politicians to go, bad weather, global warming, man, motorists, kerrrrrching, sorted.

No, I want to see CLEAR scientific evidence that states that CO2 emmissions from burning fossil fuels are the cause and that it is nothing whatsoever to do with natural processes and cycles that have affected the climate over millions of years.

Well, just because I'm willing to keep an open mind does not mean I think there isn't an manipulation of the situation by the government, however I don't check the treasury's stance before making my mind up on issues. We have the ability through technology to reduce carbon emmisions and lead a fairly unchanged lifestyle, is it not worthwile to make some effort, just in case?

I expect to be branded a tree hugging socialist now.

In a few hundred years, after 100's of trillions of pounds are wasted globally to address a cause that has no effect, we'll enter a cooling period that we have no control over, and wonder why all these idiots were using a 50 year temp change that is no different from ones seen in the past.

Regardless, people like Gordon will raise the money to fund wars, and people like you will be falling over-themselves to pay it.
