I was told that's what most of the locals do as well, rather than hang out in bars.

I was there in midsummer though, so there was a tiny bit of life around the swimming lake and hotels (until the hotel bars closed at 10pm! They once stayed open especially for a group of us until 10:30pm).

A mate told me that it was the most boring place on earth whenever he went there to visit his sister and her swedish husband.

Tell me about it. Was there some years back and remember the queues at the 'Systembolaget' and it's Argos style way of selling drinks...magazine, write down number etc...

Remember a couple of times on a weekend going to visit friends and having to resort to the 'go to restaurant, agree to buy a starter if they let me order a bottle of wine' trick, so I could bring something for the meal.

Strangely enough, with all the talk of new licensing in the UK, I had to do the same one evening when I was back in London in the summer.
