Even more incentive for companies to get the work done abroad as this cost will just make the UK less competitive overall.

The only fair way it to scrap all these disparate taxes, and put it on fuel. Simple. The more you use, the more you pay.Comment

This annoys me too.
This Govts answer is always more tax.
The motorist is already subsidising the Govt. I would quote the figures but I don't have them to hand. 50 billion income and only 14 billion spent on roads means 36 subsidy. Why isn't that money being directly spent on road and rail infrastructure.
Government consistantly tells us it cant target income to particular issues so how come it can target tax to those same issues?
Govt. target the motorist because those who travel have no choice. They can't afford to live where the work is so they commute.
A number of motoring organisations and individuals said that congestion and road charging would become just another tax on drivers. With public transport costs rising (with no improved service) it is just a game of leap frog for the traveling public.
Once again there is no wholistic view. Problems are dealt with at a macro level.
When will they see that congestion and house prices and unemployment in the regions and immigration need to be dealt with together.
Road and rail building may not be a bad thing if properly managed.
Moving away from a London centric economy will help.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

"Well charging for road use is fair - and the more you use the system the more you should pay"
Can we apply that to funding the NHS and benefits system. I'm up for that!Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.
I preferred version 1!Comment

Where are the tax incentives for companies who transition to home working?
Ooops no that would work wouldn't it?The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

This new scheme is ridiculous as it will penalise those living in rural areas who have to travel the furthest yet cause the least congestion. Almost 10 years into New Labour's 10-year Transport Plan and the best they can come up with is yet another motorist tax. Formidable!!!

I wonder if they will increase capacity on the rail network. If these schemes work, more people will use public transport and trains are already full to bursting at rush hour.
I imagine they'll just increase rail fares to counterract that and keep things fair.Comment

I would have thought the use of the word "fair" and the "HTH" would have alerted people to my ironic intent. More fool me ...Hard Brexit now!

It's interesting that there are complaints about 'declining quality' etc etc, but when I do post about things I know about and can back with facts, they are ignored and the reactionaries step in with their 'Daily Mail' opinions.Comment
