Maybe no-one had thought if it before. It's a last ditch attempt in a totally desperate situation.

They had a better plan before for the 2 death stars and only maybe in a fleeting moment in ROTJ did it look like that plan had failed and hope lost.

Plus, in Star Wars there was a proven weakness that could be exploited, rather than something which (presumably) had never been considered and might not have worked. Much better to go with the torpedoes than anything else.

For over 35 years, I've waited and watched Star Wars: A Fake Hope - film after film that I hoped would live up to Empire but never did and never will. But I've still watched every Star Wars film more than once (some significantly more than once) - and every rewatch brings new things.

On the second watching of The Last Jedi, it finally dawned on me - no Star Wars film will ever be Empire, and nor does it have to be. It doesn't have to compete because it's never going to fill me with the same feelings that Empire did that first time that I watched it. I am lucky enough that when I was young, I went to the cinema and watched Empire when it came out - and nothing can take away that experience.

The new trilogy, and the future sequels, will never give me anything like that same experience - but it's not about those of us that saw the originals as they came out (or even on the Despecialised editions that you can find online). It's about exciting and inspiring and giving the future generations that wonder and imagination boost that the original films did for people like me who got caught up at an early age and hooked ever since.

And if they can do that, then I think that's pretty amazing.
        Yep, Best film ever made.

It felt a bit forced (no pun intended): as if some market research revealed that Asian-American-Females aren't into SW, so let's put in a character to appeal to that demographic.

Having said that, I found it annoying to start with but in the end I thought her role/character worked.

Watch the scene from Dogma where janeane garofalo explains faith to Linda Fiorentino.

When you are younger a you thirst can be filled with a small amount of water, as you grown up the same amount of water wont have the same effect.

TESB was the best because at the time there was nothing to compare it against

So what's everyone looking forward to in the final movie of this trilogy?

Any major questions still to be answered?

Presume Snoke, Knights of Ren, ...? will be answered in a spin off movie.

I just don't get the feeling it's a middle part of a trilogy, more like the end of the trilogy setting up a new one. Have they glossed over that much of the intended story?

Any news on second week's box office performance so far? With Force Awakens many went to see it again and some several times over in the first few weeks. Will be interesting to see how Last Jedi compares, so we know if the producers have something to consider before writing the last episode. Relatively poor box office may get them to put more effort in than simply letting the director write the story. e.g. Rey not being a 'Mary Sue' and having actually been part of Luke's Jedi Academy or something a bit deeper than we've got so far.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

At this point I honestly do not care as I no longer see this as the Star Wars that I grew up with. Personal view is that this film is a product of massive greed along the lines of "Lets not move the story forward at all and kill off the original characters to make way for new ones. Ensure we can sell loads of toys for Christmas and beyond. Ensure the feminists are satisfied. Final point... roll out one film a year and milk it."

Next film may well have Rey and Kylo getting it on through the force despite being light years apart or some tulip. Of course another character or 3 will die but we will have "bold new" PC characters to root for who'll die in episode 10 by the way . Toys will be available for everything of course.

Rey's mission to turn Ren - failed.
Gave away a majority and now they're on the run.
Mission to disable the tracker - failed
Mission to get a shield code breaker - failed, but stumbled upon another saviour in the same cell despite there only previously being one person known to have the required skills.
Mission to escape using cloaked ships - failed. New guy somehow figures the empire should scan for cloaked ships.
Mission to destroy the big gun - U-turned at last minute.

Luke basically moped around on an island and did nothing but offer a temporary distraction via force projection. No wonder the actor was unhappy with his level of involvement in the two movies. Such a waste of potential.

Overall not that bothered about watching it again and not really got much to look forward to in the next movie. More Rey/Ren showdown.

That's what happens when you put a director in charge of also writing the story.

I wonder if JJ Abram, directing/writing the next movie, will do a 'dallas shower scene' to undo some of the poor decisions.
Some points to address the warblings of a vindictive Trekkie:
Rey got Luke back in the fight or did you miss the last ten minutes?
Rey got Ben to kill Snoke - similar to Vader killing Palpatine, no?
Del Toro overheard Rose and Fin talking about cloaked ships. Duh.
Mission to destroy the big gun was about Poe knowing when to stop.

I was really pleased that the porgs weren't a big feature like the Ewoks or *shudders* the Gungans.

Nice that Carrie's daughter was in her last film with her, although the Leia does Supergirl bit was a bit meh.

Nope that was R2D2 projecting an image of Luke like he did Leia, following an 8k image projector upgrade.

Now if after Luke had schooled Ren via the force projection and his "see you around kid" put down, Luke then raised his X-wing from the water (showing he was going to get back in the game physically) and they ended the movie there instead of him 'dying of tiredness' as some sad lonely hermit, then that would have been a fitting end to the movie, rather than some kid using the force to get his broom.
