Of those offering it maybe it's not that popular either. Overheard a woman on the train the other weekend going on about how her daughter had to go into the computer science class as her first choice wasn't available (presumably oversubscribed or she wasn't of standard), and as she hadn't chosen to take the class she was being ignored by the teacher so was unlikely to pass anyway.

Back in my day, at the dawn of home computing, there was a draw for the 30 odd computer studies places as nearly all the pupils wanted to go on it as it was so new. Some of the girls that made the cut seemed to spend lots of time doing ascii art from what I remember, maybe they could't get onto the art class.

For the House of Lords, sure, those duffers are too old but those in the House of Parliament should mostly be young enough to have had computers around when they were growing up.

These days the kids seem born with an iPad in their hands. At least it's not an iPhone, taking a selfie on the way out, yet. The generation equivalent to the one that first learnt how to programme a VCR and had to show the oldies.

You have a gross misunderstanding about computers. Kids with iPads does not mean they understand about computers, iPads are mere consumer goods. I expect the kids cannot add up in hex and don't know boolean algebra whereas many of the older generation do. Who has the greater knowledge?

It's not even 30p A good latte will cost 40p in milk and coffee, 2p electricity 10p machine depreciation say a total of £1. Sell it for £2.30 and sell 100 per hour. = £230.00 less cost of wages etc £10. A difference wages is not that much. 5p to 10p per cup.

If you sell 100 cups an hour, then £4/hour in wages difference is 4p per cup. No wonder we get immigrants in..
