The problem as I see it is that public transport despite the hard work of it's staff (i genuinely mean this) is outdated, filthy and not fit for purpose. It is all very well shutting Uber down but not providing a realistic alternative is riddiculous. The truth is, the majority of people cannot afford to get about by black cabs. This is going to really effect the night time economy staff who will have to either take their chances on a nightbus (downright dangerous) or sit outside a tube station till it opens.Comment

There are no black cabs at night. And during the day cabs are so expensive. My local firm is always a 15 minute wait.
Uber is so convenient and cheaper than the other cabs.
There may have been some issues but I am sure the same with other cab firms & am sure relatively limited.
This business model is driven by user satisfaction otherwise it wouldn't be popular and shows current cab model is outdated.
This decision by the Mayor (I assume) is a massive backward step for London.
Business travellers & tourists I come across all use Uber across London as I do abroad.
How can it be acceptable across the UK and every other country but for some reason not London????
I think this is hugely embarrassing (unless they can truly justify the decision).Comment

People working in other jobs where they irregularly work late hours will just use mini-cabs as normal.
It is people going out who find waiting 20-30 minutes for a bus too long who are going to have issues with this."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

There are lots of other taxi companies with apps that you can use in London. Just look in the app store or google. Uber isn't your only choice.Comment

BTW, don't delete the app just yet: Uber will appeal, and they're allowed to continue operating "until that process is exhausted" so it could be many months before they're shut down in London, if it happens at all.Comment

Holy Instagram!
Will someone please think of the lefty socialist self righteous millennials that will now have to phone and wait for a taxi from swiping right and heading off to a casual bang?

Most idiotic conspiracy theory so far: Google are building a new HQ in the King's Cross area, and Google have invested in Uber rivals Lyft, therefore…Comment
