What I have never understood is that Spain has free access to Gibraltar. Why not just buy up everything that comes on the market then eventually they will own it..... -
The EU is predictably giving the UK a hard time by proxy. What do you expect? One of the biggest members says, "nah, it's tulip, we're out" and you want to be treated with kindness? You just told the world the EU project is crap and you don't want to have anything to do with it. Why would the EU resist a chance to kick you?Originally posted by vetran View PostThe EU are allowing Spain to behave disgracefully. All the tosh about keeping the peace is laid bare. You're awesome! I would hope that they might have their own best interests at heart. Sadly kicking the UK is far more important.Originally posted by squarepeg View PostThe EU is predictably giving the UK a hard time by proxy. What do you expect? Because one might assume it was not a failed vanity project run by petulant schoolchildren?Originally posted by squarepeg View PostWhy would the EU resist a chance to kick you?
That they might be capable of looking past their own disappointments, and pragmatically looking for a resolution that best benefits the electorates of their remaining members, even if that also might mean a reasonable deal for the UK?
The two things need not be mutually exclusive.“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”Comment

That might have happened if you weren't kicking EU first.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostI would hope that they might have their own best interests at heart. Sadly kicking the UK is far more important.Comment

They do. They are merely trying to distract the UK with silly things in order to weaken the UK's negotiating position. And there is some understandable spite thrown in for a good measure.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostI would hope that they might have their own best interests at heart. The UK has tried asking the EU for reasonableness. However we have been poo-pooed at every turn.Originally posted by diseasex View PostThat might have happened if you weren't kicking EU first.
Very sad we left. If the EU had changed just a little it could have been a different result.Comment

So its a bit like divorce. All logic and reason goes out of the window. The UK will not drop to the EU level. They have more to lose than us.Originally posted by squarepeg View PostThey do. Yes, that's a very good analogy. The husband is standing in the door shouting, "I'm leaving!" while the wife keeps saying, "OK. Whatever, just tell me how we'll deal with the kids and what am I supposed to do about the mortgage" while she's pouring ketchup all over his clothes and other worldly possessions. Perfectly civilised.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostSo its a bit like divorce. All logic and reason goes out of the window. The UK will not drop to the EU level.
