Britain was exhausted and ruined after the war, so it was both economically and financially impossible. Morally, it was hard to defend and it's been a very touchy subject in Poland. The Polish Resettlement Act 1947 was a way of making up for that, but it was also a very pragmatic solution to the problem of not having enough hands to rebuild the country.
