A yam yam is someone from the Black Country. Although, I do try to sound as though I'm not from there...
Sorry mate - I've never understood that either (I always though people up here were just being racist about Birminghams high ethinic population when they said that!!)
Where exactly is that then? Is it an area of cities or something? (God I sound so thick - I'll never give southern agents a hard time for thinking Leeds is in the North East again!)
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
you just know this will appear in Xen's signature now - thanks Lucifier
I felt safe to post it as he has run up against the sig character limit. He will have to chose to ditch one of the incumbents first and that will pose him a severe dilemma.
The guys from NI I lived with had hilarious accents. It reminded me of watching "Why Don't You..?" as a kid, but worse. Imagine someone speaking with an NI accent and then think through this real quote from one of them in your mind...
"Did yer see yer maaan over there with the big bitch so he was but".

It is indeed an area - it has it's own museum and everything

No, it's just onamatapoeic. People from the Black Country sound like they are saying "yam yam" all the time, e.g. "Margret, how much am choc-wheats?". It's called the Black Country because as the industrial centre of the world in the 18th and 19th centuries everything was covered in soot.

Mind you, I was living in Manchester at the time.
Living in a house in Manchester with a load of Irish...I bet that went down well!
