Essex University in the late '80s had a no platform policy. But I stand corrected.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation! -
A man whose policies are in alignment with fascist ideals will become president.
It seems the yanks have chosen to follow Germany's footsteps of 80 years ago.

Its interesting how Trump is standing, like the current Tories, for the working man, yet back in the 80's and 90's he was the pinup boy for the generation of bankers who caused the worldwide financial crisis that these voters are supposedly rebelling against...Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostI've never really thought of yank youth as being the snowflake generation - I think it really is much more a UK thing.

We looks like Trump is keeping Obamacare and won't be prosecuting Hillary.
Ed Balls and a few others have pointed out Trump is going to be in for a shock when he finds he can't get things done quickly like in business. In fact the US is safe thanks to Congress and the Supreme court, however we maybe screwed though."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

That's pretty much what I meant by greatest political con trick of the century. The non-graduate white men who saw him as their saviour, based on his 'lie for votes' rhetoric are now about to discover that the Trump they voted for is not the president they're going to get. You cannot spend massively on infrastructure and reduce taxes.Originally posted by darmstadt View PostIts interesting how Trump is standing, like the current Tories, for the working man, yet back in the 80's and 90's he was the pinup boy for the generation of bankers who caused the worldwide financial crisis that these voters are supposedly rebelling against...My subconscious is annoying. Oh I think you can if you don't mind going bankrupt from time to time. This is where Trump's experience mattersOriginally posted by pjclarke View PostYou cannot spend massively on infrastructure and reduce taxes.
Perhaps he'll be the guy to declare the US bankrupt, they'll never pay off the debt if they go down the protectionist route."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

Right. Notwithstanding Executive Orders, the President is quite fettered on domestic policy. There's much more latitude on foreign and trade policy.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostIn fact the US is safe thanks to Congress and the Supreme court, however we maybe screwed though.Comment

Sure, you can. He's going to increase national debt, which will be interesting for the Republican Congress. Of course, his arguments are that tax cuts and infrastructure investments will boost GDP in the short and long-term, respectively, thereby increasing taxes in real terms. We'll seeOriginally posted by pjclarke View PostYou cannot spend massively on infrastructure and reduce taxes.
It generally doesn't work like that, although there will be a short term boost as companies like Apple repatriate their massive overseas reserves.

Clinton who makes secret speeches to Wall St Bankers declaring she's on their side really and that you have to lie to ordinary people? Or the Billionaire 'man of the people'!
Election Turnout was 55%. Almost half of the Americans didn't even bother to vote. What's the point when your damned either way?Comment

Don't worry. As far as you and your thinking are concerned, you are generally ploughing a lonely furrow.Originally posted by scooterscot View Post
