        Don't go on holiday. Keep looking round.

        You should have thrown a sickie without forewarning. Its under a week so even permies would not need a doctor note.

          OK, so he didn't realise that an IT contractor has a contract with the agent which is different to the contract the agent has signed with him the client.
          Maybe he was hoping that all of us would tell him to suck it up and don't bother chasing the money because then he the client would know that it's unlikely the contractor will go after him them.

            OP - first off the holiday thing. I would say 3 days off the next week is a bit short notice. Some clients, as yours has, may have an issue with this.

            If theres nothing going on though then sounds like client is just being OTT about it. Its a difficult one and I'm with you on not letting client tell you what to do. BUT you've got to be reasonable and it depends if you want to keep the client or not. I guess you don't. Saying that also, dont let the client dictate stupid terms either. Most clients I've found are fine but some act as if the contractor is there to never have a holiday and fill in for the permies that do.

            For any significant hols, I try and tell client as far as I can in advance and then remind them when a renewal includes these hols. Only once have I had a problem where client said "ah no thats awkward". I said "ah but I told you ages ago and its booked and I cant cancel so tough". They moaned and groaned but I basically said "Look I've been fair, I'm not losing the money its too much, Im not letting my family down either because you forgot I wasnt available - do you still want me to stay?" They did.

            As for the notice period - I think probably not. I'd still ask though they might pay up. Worth a tilt.

            Bottom line - how important is this holiday for you? I think you know you're being a bit unreasonable at short notice so like I said, if you dont mind getting canned and not getting paid the notice then go for it.

                      What the hell is this thread?

                      Someone is either on a WUM or NCOTBAC.

                      If you go AWOL having been advised against it by client, expect a termination and no further work, rather than notice. Client will terminate their contract with agent and agent will seek to get all the money in that they can without giving a toss about you, especially as you've cost them future billing.
