There are exemptions in the legislation to cover such a scenario, but the Conservatives are not going to trigger a GE, and Labour are so deep in the mucky brown stuff, they probably aren't even aware there could be one.His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain... -

If Blair had listened to the UN lots of people including British Service personnel and Iraq citizens would still be alive. Then again they were only cannon fodder...Originally posted by Mordac View PostMostly harmless."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

The UN serves a rather different purpose and in a rather different way as I'm sure you are aware. At least I'm hoping you're aware.Originally posted by AtW View PostHow do you feel about UN then?
I'm sure the EU voting system is great for those who want laws set by 28 countries but myself and millions of others don't. Hence leave. The remaining 27 can vote without interference.Comment

When we mostly Labour and Tory MEPs who were in the same European group, they and British Civil Servants were very good at convincing the others to vote our way. Unfortunately now we have a load of UKippers who don't bother turning up.Originally posted by GB9 View PostThe UN serves a rather different purpose and in a rather different way as I'm sure you are aware. Well they didn't do a very good job with Juncker seeing as he is a federalist and we were against him.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostWhen we mostly Labour and Tory MEPs who were in the same European group, they and British Civil Servants were very good at convincing the others to vote our way. That's Camoron's fault.Originally posted by GB9 View PostWell they didn't do a very good job with Juncker seeing as he is a federalist and we were against him."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

What does it matter who was to blame. Why would we want to be in a situation whereby our future is dependent upon how other countries want to progress?Originally posted by SueEllen View PostThat's Camoron's fault.Comment

I doubt the Iraqi death toll would have been very much lower had the war not happened. Saddam was pretty efficient in that area. Everything else you say, is of course, totally correct.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostIf Blair had listened to the UN lots of people including British Service personnel and Iraq citizens would still be alive. I think the issue of Brexit is of such significance that a General election must be called. Not on the issue of weather we exit or not, as that has been decided, but on the different parties vision of what a post Brexit UK looks like. For example see Osborne already talking of relaxing the fiscal rules, this was not in the Tory manifesto. They has a manifesto pledge to balance the books by 2020, but now due to Brexit that's gone. What else will either be amended/cut/introduced all in the name of 'Brexit', none of which would have been put before the nation in a General Election.
The same applies to labour we can assume that a Corbyn led labour would have a very different vision for post Brexit UK than the Tories. Should the public not have a chance to decide which vision they want implemented.
The simple fact is that the basis on which the last election was contested has now been completely changed. Both parties should use the next 3 months to develop their post Brexit visions and negotiation priorities, and then put those to the people in a General election. After that the new govt can proceed with withdrawal knowing that it's vision and approach has the backing of the people.Comment
