Agencies do all the legwork, HR just email them the requirements. It's that simple.

all getting pummeled for results from the trickle down masters , add in ITIL Prince sla kpi`s and all that other crud and you have a big soup of stress and job protection.
Then you need to learn to master your skill and abilities properly. You could knock up a business supporting 20 - 30 small businesses for 5 -20k a piece and be rolling in it instead you are fixated on one client and probably a good target for inside IR35...

I sat with HR when the last project needed more staff. They said it was cheaper and quicker for them to call their main Indian outsource company, because they can have a team of 10 onsite in 48hrs, we can send back the ones that are not up to the job, it's quick and painless and the outsourcer takes care of work permit issues.

This is the truth, but if you want to put your fingers in your ears and sing "la la la" I quite understand it.

I thought you might. Never mind, keep pretending millions of people aren't coming over and working for low pay in IT.

Around 45-46k. Simple maths, day rate x 5 (days in a week) x 52 (if you are paid 4 weekly) or day rate x 261 (that's 365 less 104 for weekends), if you are paid calendar monthly.
If you're struggling with that, it's no bleedin' wonder you're benched.

Methinks the "contractors" never get a look in anyway, since the FTV lot will do it for 10k less, not that they realise they are getting paid less than the original advertised salary. In my experience, when applying for a permie job (and I have considered a few) you first need to get past the agency numpties who assume "once a contractor, always a contractor" and bin you straightaway, and even if you get past them, you are stuck with the HR mentality "it's company policy not to employ contractors".

                      Go direct.

If you network you can get decent opportunities without agencies.

I've contracted at a couple of companies where a contractor has gone permanent and they got the role by approaching someone else first.
