That's a bit like saying the police should watch every house to prevent burglaries. They don't. That's not the way policing works. To really patrol the borders would cost far more than the British people would put up with, not to mention the endless delays at the ports turning Kent into a lorry park.

Switzerland let me in. Twice. And that was when there were border patrols on the motorway, though in reality all they cared about was making you pay for their road tax permit.
