Graduate with a Civil Engineering degree.
    Does not understand compounding.
How much maths is there in his degree?

I do feel sorry for him, graduating with a huge loan. I don't think there is a wage premium of £9,500 for graduates vs non-graduates any longer.

Students these days. They want all kinds of crazy luxuries like food and somewhere to live. Some of them even want to buy books (though admittedly this is rare)

The viral letter about mis-sold student loans due to retrospective interest hikes is well meaning, but wrong - Martin Lewis' Blog...

They should write off all the loans for anyone who studied something useful* and is working in the UK.

          * Media studies in not on this list.

The trouble is the Micky mouse degrees and 50% getting degrees.

Hack that down and give scholarships to medical and engineering students.

How is this the trouble? How specifically would it help my younger self as I start uni, knowing that less of my contempories are going to be saddled with huge debts?

                All a bit UKIP.

THE - UKIP would make STEM tuition-fee free, and revise net migration count

Double the existing fees on carp / pointless tulipe courses.

Free scholarships for science / maths / engineering / technology / medical degrees.

So simple, it boggles the mind, but I suspect the EU won't allow this.

Ah yes a techy thinks only techy subjects are worthwhile. That's exactly the kind of narrow-minded thinking which shows we really need to make sure arts subjects are still respected - history in particular.

Also why shouldn't someone have the freedom to rack up £40k of debt doing a Media Studies degree? Are you against personal freedom DP?

Anyone can study whatever they like, but they pay full whack for it.

We don't need anymore "highly educated" burger flippers. We do need people to benefit mankind, that doesn't come from some burk who studied the Romans 15 hours a week at Uni.
