It does rather look like a nasty aftermarket number.Originally posted by bobspud View PostWhy does it have a tulip spoiler hanging off it like a council estate Scoobie?Comment

The point I was trying to make is that mega-power when you have it can actually be quite boring and that less is more in a lot of circumstances as you can thrash the pants off something without losing your licence.Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostCars have long been able to so eye watering speeds. The best thing is you can get cracking late 90s/early 00s motors for relatively little money, but with enough performance to more than entertain....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

Amongst a couple of other bits and bobs I have a 1998 Merc C230K manual. Worth probably £1K at best, but cracking fun to drive, carries the kids, not worried about parking it anywhere and I can service and repair most things myself. There's loads of lovely metal for sub-£10K. Even lovely low mileage Bentley Arnage T can be had for £30K. Why anyone buys new these days is beyond me.Originally posted by Lockhouse View PostThe point I was trying to make is that mega-power when you have it can actually be quite boring and that less is more in a lot of circumstances as you can thrash the pants off something without losing your licence.Comment

I agree. For everyday use I have a 1998 Volvo V40 Estate - so fairly similar.Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostAmongst a couple of other bits and bobs I have a 1998 Merc C230K manual. I have to keep reminding myself of this every time I take my toy in for servicing and see nice shiny AMG 63's sat at the dealers...Originally posted by Lockhouse View PostThe point I was trying to make is that mega-power when you have it can actually be quite boring and that less is more in a lot of circumstances as you can thrash the pants off something without losing your licence.
I think the truth of it is because the performance of normal cars have improved so much, even thrashing them in a moderately quick car is going to get you some nasty consequences if you happen to stumble past an an unmarked car in the middle of the game. Having been in a court for speeding a long time ago I can attest that Magistrate Courts love young well off guys with sports cars because they get to use them to subsidise the other penniless ******* that cause all manner of grief.
Shame because the rest of lt looks great.Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostIt does rather look like a nasty aftermarket number.Comment

So much so that I cannot see the point of having the Cayman and the 911 in the same lineup. Supposedly one is mid engined and one rear engined but they look almost the same. Cayman started out as a hard top Boxster but to the uninitiated the Boxster was the open top 911 for those that didn't really know or care about the 911 targa.Originally posted by bobspud View PostShame because the rest of lt looks great.
Then there's the Porsche Macan and Cayenne. A brief comparison via google images and I cannot see a major difference.
Reminds me of BMW and Audi where they are filling every possible gap in their model line up with derivatives. It's like trying to choose a tube of Colgate, there's loads of variants, only subtly different as you go through the product range.Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.Comment
