Points will not get applied to a UK license. Hire car company may get sent the fine & will charge an Admin fee - reasonable with Sixt - insane with the American's - Hertz, Avis etc.Comment

If the speedo is reading 60 (kph?) then the real speed was probably 55-58.
Don't know how the German cameras are set up but they may take the over-read into account.Comment

Always wondered how accurate the the sat nav speed display is as it suggests I could go fasterHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment

If I recall EU legislation is that speedometers must read at least 10% over actual speed.Originally posted by Troll View PostTrue dat.. I always do speedo indicated 55mph in those 50mph average speed areas

As to Sat Nav the speed measurement error based on carrier phase rate (Doppler offset) is less than than 0.07mph.
With a modern Satnav with a good chip set and software it is pretty damn accurate. Mine changes the car's gears according to gradient, bends & a myriad of other things on the route.
Old Tom Toms can be 5-7 miles out, but they are always conservative.Comment

You sure that's not the auto box doing that?Originally posted by clearedforlanding View PostMine changes the car's gears according to gradient, bends & a myriad of other things on the route..

The SatNav 'reads the road' & sends instructions to the gear box, which are compared to sensor readings allowing for the next gear to be preselected.Originally posted by Troll View PostYou sure that's not the auto box doing that?

Expect a small fine in the post. This one I had to visit the police station to get a slap on my wrist. The police officer was actually quite funny."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment
