For Costco you have to pay for membership which is ridiculous, besides that there's non near to where I live

You get cashback on what you spend, though, so it pays for itself if you keep going there. The enemy made a chicken curry with the chicken from Costco last night and it was bloody good. I've also picked up a load of multipack soft drinks for my local bowls club because I can get them Pepsi at 23p/can so that they can make some decent money on it to boost their coffers rather than them *hopefully* breaking even from a high street multipack offer.

They also do some great offers on clothes; they often get runs of things like Hugo Boss, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Levis, etc. £53 for a pair of 501s seemed decent while also boosting your cashback (which generally clears off your membership if you pick up enough bargains!)

Besides, who can resist a hot dog and cola for £1.50? Better value than any high street hot dog stand.

They sell the best Steaks in the world. I tend to buy my meat for deep freezer from Costco.

I agree about Makro, they re-organised our local one and huge areas are now just selling individual units of stuff. It's still good for things like sauces, herbs n spices, gravy, some frozen stuff.

I've been thinking of joining these but lack of freezer space currenly prohibits it :-

For foreign foods I find the chinese supermarkets (e.g. Wing Fat in Manchester) are very good, and smaller independent e.g. Polish or Asian stores.

I had Costco membership for a year, and then cancelled it - just wasn't worthwhile. They also refused to let me look round to see whether it was worthwhile before I joined.

I use my Makro card fairly regularly - meat has always been good, their Indian platters are nice (lots of samosas), and my chewing gum habit would be prohibitively expensive if I didn't go there!!

The £24 inc VAT membership (tax deductable, of course) doesn't offer cashback. That would be the £60 inc VAT membership giving 2% cashback.

So if you spend £1800 or more a year in Costco, then fill your boots on that membership. Otherwise the £24 membership will do ;-)

That's not true. Atleast my local warehouse lets you get a guest pass to look around. You cannot buy anything unless you are a member, but you can definitely look around.

They keep on bringing new stuff and really good price, plus the guarantee is outstanding. If something breaks you can return it - no questions asked. That alone makes it worth spending the membership fees.

I wonder why I remember it differently to you - but of course, you were there so I must not be telling the truth about my experience
