Drug addicted millionaire tells ex-wife marriage is for better or worse
" A millionaire who frittered away hundreds of thousands of pounds on drink, drugs and escort girls is challenging his ex-wife’s divorce settlement, arguing that when she married him it was for “better or worse”.
David Rapp, 56, a former oil trader, received £1.2 million less than his ex-wife Francoise, 47, after a court heard he had wasted a large amount of their joint fortune.
But lawyers for Mr Rapp argued the court should consider their wedding vows and said he should not be punished for his addictive “illness”.
Mr Rapp and his wife split in 2009 after 16-years marriage she she claimed she could no longer cope with his partying lifestyle and inability to beat his cocaine addiction.
After assessing how much of their joint fortune Mr Rapp had spent on his addictions, the judge awarded her a larger share of their £13.6 million assets.
That included their £3.5m two-bed apartment home in one of London's smartest streets, only a few yards from Harrods, in Knightsbridge."
