The US Navy still uses Windows XP too....

The U.S. Navy is paying Microsoft millions of dollars to keep up to 100,000 computers afloat because it has yet to transition away from Windows XP.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, which runs the Navy's communications and information networks, signed a $9.1 million contract earlier this month for continued access to security patches for Windows XP, Office 2003, Exchange 2003 and Windows Server 2003.

The entire contract could be worth up to $30.8 million and extend into 2017.

Are you sure you want to launch the F22?

I'm sorry, launch of the F22 is not available at this time.

I had a client about 6 years ago that still used 4 or 5 16 bit Windows applications as part of their software suite (that they sold to their clients). It wasn't the main part of the job but the fact I was old enough to have done Windows 3.1 software and could maintain it was a selling point.

I probably could still do it. I don't think there's much demand.

Using windoz will be the least of the QE's (and PoW's) worries.

The USN Carrier Groups normally sail with 1 air defence guided missle cruiser ( the RN has no cruisers so a Type 45 destroyer will have to do!), upto 2 anti submarine frigates or destroyers (the RN's frigates are reaching end of life so again, a Type 45 destroyer will have to do. This will likely be the same T45 assigned to the group instead of a cruiser!), 2 other air defence \ anti submarine capable ships. There will also be a couple of replenishment ships. (Not sure how many RFA's capable of replenishing the QE or PoW at sea are currently in service but let's be generous and say there's at least 1!)

Again the RN only has 6 Type 45 destroyers in service so that will also probably be the same T45 used in place of the cruiser and anti submarine frigates!

So, the QE or PoW if it ever sees service will be protected by 1 Type 45 destroyer and be the biggest sitting duck on the high seas! Think on.

The lead ship of the T26 class "should" be in active service by the time QE launches

It's all moot anyway since she won't have any aircraft until 2023.
