Yes. Evolution is a scientific theory - for which there is supporting evidence. When there is evidence against we can abandon the theory.
Unlike God for which there is no evidence whatsoever.

As for why it matters. The fundies of whatever stamp are intruding on my rational life with their childish garbage.

I was missing a major point, creationism is not just a harmless stand alone theory, but part of a parcel of irrational thinking that everything in life should be determined by the supposed word of god as laid down in the bible. Accept that the bible has anything to teach us on that subject and who knows what other drivel, some of it definitely malign, we are opening the door to.

Exactly. It's a free country and you can believe whatever crap you like - but don't force it on my kids in school, don't try to blow me up on the train etc. etc. Us rationalists are the real oppressed minority nowadays.
