Writing to your MP won't change a single thing. I work in Government, I know exactly what's going on with this SR.

This legislation basically puts us all on an ftc. Some will be ok with that, some won't. I am not. To me it's end of the road, if I wanted secure work and permie lifestyle I would have done that ages ago. Ftcs are all the negatives and no benefits. Time to change career. Good luck to the Government handling the sht storm when there's no contractors left with skills to do jobs that employees don't have.

You don't treat people like this.

It would be great to organise a contractor "strike". The two weeks that the banks are always insisting we take - mass walk out on Monday for 14 days. But I fear we're all far too mercenary.

And for everyone who gives up, there is a consultancy ICT ready to step in. That's the reality.

You can argue all day long about 'quality' and 'industry knowledge' but at the end of the day, no one gives a f**k or companies like Lloyds wouldn't have got off with making 000's of people redundant and replacing them with offshore. Plenty of other big companies have done the same. No one gives a tulip, you'll be helping line the pockets of an offshore consultancy shareholder.

            .
Unfortunately there are not enough of us to make writing to an MP as part of a campaign work.

However writing to your MP does sometimes convince them abstain or vote against things, or if enough people do it for the government of the day to withdraw the bill completely (or for the House of Lords to do the work for them).

I always wondered how those who had never learned how to program before uni managed!
In every field particularly, in places like the UK, there have always been people who have learnt enough from education to take things apart and learn things on their own.

How useful did you find it? I am considering doing one of them, but not fully sold yet as I'm still researching options.

I do actually think that this one is so damaging that we could get their support. I'm intending to write back to mine to ask for his personal view on it.

Found it very useful as they taught C++ & they also placed you with local firms for 3 months & this was used as the basis of your M.Sc dissertation. I worked on an image processing application with a local medical imaging company & walked into a C++/MFC role in London at the end of the course.

Do you have actual facts on the plans? Or are you talking about generally?
